Over the past few months, more than 30 people from across the Burnett region took the time to complete our Burnett Non-Technical Skills Development Quiz quiz. We created this short quiz to explore how individuals see themselves in four key areas: CommunicationTeamworkVision & Goals, and Leadership—and to better understand what kind of development opportunities would be most useful in our local communities.

The response was thoughtful, generous, and clear.

What We Learned

We heard from people in Monto, Mundubbera, Gayndah, Biggenden, Goomeri, Murgon, Wondai, Kingaroy, and Nanango. The quiz revealed that many of us feel confident in some areas, but are still seeking practical ways to improve in others—especially around big-picture planning, navigating different personalities, and deepening our emotional intelligence.

Across the board, people expressed a strong interest in interactive, face-to-face learning, ideally in half-day or full-day workshops, with morning weekday sessions being the most preferred format. There was some appetite for multi-day training retreats. There was also strong interest in community-focused workshops, especially around conflict resolution, mindset, wellness, and networking.

Where We’re Headed Next

Based on your feedback, we’ll be working to offer a series of workshops across the region, focused on:

  • Practical communication tools

  • Managing tricky conversations and personalities

  • Goal setting and motivation

  • Building stronger teams and workplaces

Whether you're an employee, a small business owner, a community leader, or just someone passionate about growth, there will be something for you. Watch this space!

Thank You

This project was developed and refined during the Red Earth Community Leadership Program 2025, and inspired by conversations about continuing to grow and support one another beyond graduation. We are so grateful to everyone who took the time to complete the quiz. Your responses have not only shaped future opportunities but are helping build a stronger, more connected Burnett region.
